Ansel Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984)
Ansel Adams was an American photographer and environmentalist. He is well known for his black and white landscape portraits of the americans west, in particular Yosemite National Park.
- In 1927, Adams produced hist first portfolio, Parmelian Prints of the High Sierras. This was a new style which included his famous image. Monolith, the Face if Half Dome.
- In the 1930's Adams focused on detailed close ups as well as large forms from mountains to factories. Through a friend, Adams managed to get a museum exhibition at the Smithsonian institution featuring 60 prints taken in the High Sierra.
- In 1940, Ansel put together a Pageant of Photography. This was the most important and largest photography show in the west to date, millions of people attended. IN New Mexico, Adams took a photo of the moon rising above a modest village with snow covered mountains in the background. This photo is very famous and is names Moonrise.
- In the 1950's Adams founded the magazine Aperture, which was intended as a serious journal of photography. The magazine contained the top photographers and new innovations at the time.
My VIews.
I really enjoy Ansel Adams work. I like that he takes pictures of a variety of things and how his style has changed since he started. The remote locations and the angles he uses makes the smallest things stand out. For example in the photo where you can see a lake in the foreground, I like how you can see the reflection of the mountains. The leaf that he took the picture of stands out dramatically because of how bright it is. The photo is relatively simple but thats what I enjoy about it.
