- Access to running water: This is so you can clean up when you are finished but also to wash your hands so you do not get the corrosive on your skin or eyes.
- Easy access to outside air and good ventilation. Not having ventilation can be dangerous because a lot of the liquids used are toxic.
- Dark rooms can be very wet and there are lots of electrics. Make sure you keep the chemicals away from the electrics.
Traditional Dark room process
- Exposure of the image onto a sanitized using a contact printer or enlarger
- Processing of the latent image
- Development of the exposed image reduces the silver halide in the latent image to metallic silver, you leave it in the tray for 1 minute
- You then put it in water 15 seconds to stop the development.
- you put it in old fix which helps the new fix stay longer. This is done for 15 seconds.
- You then put new fix, this is so the picture does not fade in the future. this is done for 5 minutes.
